Portable Sonotrax lite is great for those who need a simple high quality fetal heart rate monitor. Listen to the heart beats of your baby as early as 10 weeks into pregnancy. This can be very exciting for the mother and father. You can select either the 2 or 3MHz probe. Both types would work well; however the 3M Hz version works better during early stage of pregnancy, while the 2M Hz version allows for deeper signal penetration and works better for overweight mothers.
With Sonotrax Lite, you can listen to the heart beats and record them to your PC as the fetus develops in your womb. You can hear the heart beat rate decreases from 155/195 bpm to 120/170 bpm as the fetus develops.
The fetal heart rate undergoes constant and minute adjustments in response to the fetal environment and stimuli. A trained person can deduce the fetal condition based on the rate, its pattern, and its variability. Too fast, too slow, lack of variability or sudden changes in patterns are signals of a compromised situation. During labor in hospital, electronic fetal monitor is commonly used to measure the response of the baby's heart rate to contractions of the uterus. It provides an ongoing record that can be read by the doctor or nurse.
In Fetal Psychology, research suggested that fetus could feel, dream, and even enjoy "The Cat in the Hat." The fetus's reaction to various stimuli was measured by tracking the change in its heart beat. Here are some findings mentioned in the article:
"... fetal heart rate slows when the mother is speaking, suggesting that the fetus not only hears and recognizes the sound, but is calmed by it."
"The fetal heartbeat will slow down when a familiar French fairy tale such as La Poulette (The Chick)..."
To improve sensitivity, rub some baby oil or water over the lower abdomen prior to operation. This would improve the contact between the probe and skin leading. Conductive gel would help, but not required.
